Merthyr schools pay tribute to the Queen

Pupils from schools across Merthyr Tydfil attended the Civic Centre yesterday (15 September) to lay floral tributes in memory of Queen Elizabeth II.

The pupils were greeted by Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil Cllr Declan Sammon and High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan Maria Thomas.  They were then invited into the Civic Centre for refreshments and a visit to the Mayor’s Parlour and Council Chamber.

“We were delighted to welcome so many of our students today,” said Cllr Sammon. “They were very respectful and solemn in paying tribute to the late Queen, and their schools can be proud of how they were represented.

“They enjoyed their tour of the civic facilities, signed the visitors’ book and tried on the Mayor’s chains. I have no doubt that some of them will go on to become public servants, and all of them will become valuable adult citizens of Merthyr Tydfil.”
