Rhian Bowen-Davies, the Older People's Commissioner for Wales, successfully concluded a week-long community visit to Merthyr Tydfil, focusing on connecting with local residents and understanding their needs.

During her visit, Commissioner Bowen-Davies engaged with multiple community groups, including the Dementia Carers Connect group, Merthyr Valley Veterans, and various local organisations. Her itinerary included visits to community centers, leisure facilities, and residential care homes, demonstrating her commitment to hearing directly from older people across Wales.

Key activities during the week involved meeting with local support groups, participating in community events, and discussing important issues affecting older residents. The Commissioner's visit aimed to ensure that the voices of older people, particularly those often overlooked, were heard and their rights protected.

Cllr Louise Minett-Vokes, Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health & Youth Participation commented: "This visit was about truly listening and understanding the experiences of our older community members. Commissioner Bowen-Davies has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to ensuring our seniors feel valued, heard, and supported."

The Older People's Commissioner's team remains available to provide advice and support through their Cardiff office, continuing their mission to empower and protect the rights of older individuals throughout Wales.
