As non-essential shops re-open across Wales, Merthyr Tydfil businesses are being urged to take part in a survey that will help the Council to help them.

Our County Borough Wide Economic Vision and Recovery Plan consultation survey has been drawn up to find out how businesses have been impacted by the pandemic, what support they have received and still need, and what moves they have made – or could make – to look at diversifying to future-proof trading.

“COVID-19 has devastated many of our businesses, but they’ve shown resilience and a willingness to adapt to deal with the challenges,” said Head of Regeneration and Housing Chris Long.

“The Council’s Regeneration and Revenues & Benefits officers have helped businesses secure more than £30m of Welsh Government support over the past year, including grants to help them diversify their offer.

“The 15-year plan will not only help us to recover but will also provide the long-term focus we need to grow our economy to the benefit of our residents, communities and businesses. We’d be very grateful for as much feedback as possible.”

The plan aims to:
• establish an Economic Recovery Board

• set up a Business, Education and Training Partnership (BETP)

• continue to coordinate business support for local business sustainability

• develop opportunities to allow children and young people experience wider employment opportunities through partnership

The Council is working with planning and design consultants The Urbanists and economic consultants The Means to develop the plan.
