Pupils from Merthyr Tydfil joined schools from across Cardiff and the Vale this week to take part in Codi Llais, a vibrant celebration of music and song that filled the Welsh capital with the sound of a thousand young voices.
Students from Blessed Carlo Acutis Roman Catholic School, Merthyr Tydfil, proudly represented their community alongside primary and secondary school, a regional youth choir and professional performers, contributing to a memorable and uplifting musical occasion.
The programme featured a rich mix of performances from schools across the region, complemented by special guest artists Shelly Ann, Mike Doyle and Bronwen Lewis, whose enthusiasm and musicianship left a lasting impression on the young performers.
Ahead of the event, pupils enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with Bronwen Lewis through dedicated songwriting sessions. Together, they helped to create a song written especially for Codi Llais, allowing students to play an active role in shaping the performance and to feel a genuine sense of ownership and pride on the day.
Staff and pupils expressed their heartfelt thanks to Cardiff and Vale Music Service and their dedicated staff for organising the event and ensuring that all pupils had such a positive experience of live music. A particular highlight was the premiere of the original song written by Bronwen and the pupils, featuring the lyric:
“If I have music, I am home.”
Codi Llais celebrated not only musical talent, but also collaboration, creativity and confidence, bringing young people from different communities together through song. For the choristers from Merthyr Tydfil, it was a joyful opportunity to perform on a large stage, share their voices, and take part in a truly special musical event in Wales’ capital city.
