Merthyr Tydfil today played host to a variety of activities across the county borough to celebrate national play day as part of the 'summer of fun'.

The theme for this year’s Playday is 'all to play for' – building play opportunities for all children and aims to highlight that play is for everyone. The activities today have all been funded by the Welsh government's 'Summer of Fun' 2022 initiative, and celebrates this fantastic day.

Providers have organised music, art, dance, physical activity, sport, and pool playing activities up and down Merthyr Tydfil to celebrate the day. 'Summer of Fun' has been in full swing since July and children and young people aged 0 – 25 years old have been enjoying their summer break with creative activities, helping them through the summer to support their wellbeing and health.

Mayor Declan Salmon attended two of the events this morning, at Gellideg Foundation and Theatr Soar, and, said “As part of the Welsh Governments renewed contribution to this year’s summer of fun, they have provided over a £100,000 to fund activities from July to September, so we are very grateful for that funding. These activities are so important for the young people and children of Merthyr Tydfil, especially the struggles many have faced over the past 2 years due to the COVID 19 pandemic. They support our young people and children socially, emotionally, and physically and at the end, give them a summer they will always remember.”

There is still time left to book a place on the Summer of Fun, so check out this link: https://www.merthyr.gov.uk/resident/summer-of-fun/?lang=en-GB&
