Press Release - IWD

On Friday 6th March, the Business and Education Together Partnership (BETP) hosted a powerful International Women’s Day: Give to Gain event, welcoming 100 Year 8 girls for a day designed to spark curiosity, open doors and raise aspirations. The event brought together exceptional women from across Wales and beyond, each offering their time, expertise and personal stories to inspire the next generation.

The day began with an energising keynote from Rhuanedd Richards, Head of BBC Nations Wales, inspiring pupils to believe in their potential and embrace new opportunities. Pupils then took part in a range of workshops including hands‑on STEM, Creative Design, Numeracy and Financial Literacy delivered by partners including Morgan Sindall, Tilbury Douglas, University of South Wales, Welsh School of Architecture and Monmouthshire Building Society.

Cabinet Member for Education, Cllr Gareth Lewis said, “pupils were encouraged to follow their dreams, choose subjects they enjoy and not be afraid to try something new. These workshops allowed students to identify areas of growth in themselves while helping them to develop skills that will support them in both learning and life. The honest insights, powerful encouragement and real‑world stories helped pupils see the many pathways available to them.”

A highlight of the event was the Ambassador Q&A Panel, where students posed their own questions to an impressive line‑up of professionals in male-dominated industries. Panel members generously shared their experiences, challenges, and advice, offering pupils a real‑world look at diverse and rewarding career journeys.

The event showcased the power of collaboration between schools, industry partners, and community leaders. Together, they demonstrated a shared belief that every pupil has the potential to dream big and achieve more. By connecting young people with inspiring role models and real‑world opportunities, the event encouraged students to see beyond limitations, embrace their talents and take confident steps toward a brighter future.
