Youth Mayor Inauguration 2026

On Friday 5^th June 2026, the inauguration of the new Youth Mayor took place at Merthyr Tydfil Registry Office in a private ceremony. Cian Evans, a 19‑year‑old student from Merthyr College, was appointed as the 16th Youth Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil, while 14‑year‑old Cyfarthfa High School student Jack Howells stepped into the role of Deputy Youth Mayor.

Following the official ceremony the Youth Mayor’s Gala ball took place at Morlais Castle Golf Club where the room and table setting reflected Cian’s fun and inclusive nature.

In his acceptance speech, Youth Mayor, Cian Evans, expressed his gratitude to the young people of Merthyr Tydfil for the opportunity to represent them and outlined his key pledges for his term of office; supporting people in need, including those experiencing homelessness or relying on food banks and strengthening support for anyone facing mental health challenges. His dedication to promoting fair inclusion for all young people featured strongly in his speech, earning him respect from his peers and the wider community.

On behalf of the Youth Mayor, Deputy Youth Mayor and Youth Cabinet we would like to thank everyone who attended this wonderful occasion for their ongoing support. We look forward to seeing the great things we know both these newly appointed young people will achieve and look forward to sharing their accomplishments with you.
