Memorials
In order to place a memorial it is necessary to purchase the Exclusive Rights of Burial of a grave/plot. Only memorial masons registered with the British Register of Accredited Monumental Masons (BRAMM) will be permitted to fix memorials within Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council cemeteries.
Responsibility for the Memorial
The following list contains a number of key responsibilities, which you accept when having a memorial placed in the cemetery.
- The memorial remains the property of its owners and does not become the property or the responsibility of the Local Authority.
- It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that the memorial is maintained in a safe condition and does not pose a hazard to cemetery staff or visitors. We do, therefore, expect memorial owners to regularly check to ensure that their memorial remains safe. You may wish to discuss ongoing maintenance of the memorial with the Monumental Mason.
- In the event of the memorial being vandalised, which, thankfully, is a very rare occurrence, the Authority does not accept any liability.
The Council reserves the right to remove any unauthorised memorial or ornaments placed in the cemetery.
Basic cleaning/washing down and non-specialist cleaning of a Memorial may be undertaken by any person.
