Who are we? And what do we do?
The Compass Community Hub is located in the Gurnos, Merthyr Tydfil and is funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. The Hub provides learning and support to anyone aged 16+ living in the UK, whatever your employment circumstances. Our range of training and support can help you to learn something new, make new friends or increase your work related skills. Our workshops, courses and community events are offered at various days and times throughout the week. All courses, workshops and support is free.

Construction Workshops
Whether you are considering a career in the construction industry or want to learn the basics, our fully functioning workshops are the place to start. Our tutors have a wealth of knowledge in carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing & tiling where you can gain entry level workplace qualifications to progress further or basic DIY to benefit yourself around the house. We also provide training and preparation to obtain your CSCS card, working at an individual pace to suit you.
Retail Skills Training Room
Our retail skills training room is a great opportunity to gain experience and prepare for a retail or hospitality role. We offer qualifications in both Retail in the Workplace and Customer Service, so whether you want to brush up your retail skills or see if it’s the career choice for you by gaining experience – the Compass Community Hub can help.
Hair & Beauty Salon
At the Compass Community Hub, our mock hair & beauty room gives you the salon experience to brush up on existing skills or see if it’s the career change for you. We offer qualifications in assisting a beautician or hair stylist to allow you to begin your journey in the Hair & Beauty sector. You can also gain professional qualifications in a variety of areas such as eyebrow wax and tint, eyelash extensions, nail technology and body piercing.
ICT Suite
We have a bespoke ICT suite which offers a variety of courses to include complete beginners to professional level 2 qualifications. Our IT workshops also offer short courses which can enable you to upskill. These include online safety, using Teams, Excel and Microsoft Office. Learning is flexible and courses run throughout the week including evenings.
Ceramics / Art Workshop
Our unique community ceramics and art facility has potters wheels and a kiln room to enable you to learn a variety of techniques to create items from clay. Our arts and craft classes include sewing, jewellery making and general craft. It’s a great opportunity to come along to start a new hobby, consider a new career, make new friends or improve your wellbeing.
Conference/Training Rooms
At the Compass Community Hub, we have two conference/training rooms available for hire. So if you are looking for a community location to host training or meetings, enquire now.

The Compass Community Hub has designated mentors to coach and support you to strive for your career goal. Whether you plan to start your own business, transition into full-time employment, go into full-time education or work towards your dream job, we can help. We work with partners to support you with barriers which you may be facing to help you to excel in work.
Volunteering & Work Placement
At the Compass Community Hub, we liaise with local employers and charities to offer volunteering and work placement opportunities with the goal of extending your CV, improving your experience and moving you closer to your career goals.
Our volunteering and work placement opportunities are tailored to the individual needs and purpose, with a Progression Officer guiding and supporting you through the whole process and experience.
