Preparing for Emergencies

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council has prepared a Major Incident Plan capable of dealing with events from a vast range of major emergencies.

The Major Incident Plan provides a framework for an immediate response by the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services to any major disaster which may occur within the County Borough.

This plan is a generic document which has been designed as a guide to response. It is recognised that incidents vary enormously in degree of response required and impact on the Community. Responding agencies will use experience and knowledge to deal in a flexible way with any incident.

Preparing for emergencies - Government Advice

The Government continues to work hard to make sure that the UK is as prepared as it can be in the event of an emergency, and it is important that you are ready too; by being informed and prepared, you can reduce the risk to life and property.

Government Advice on Preparing for Emergencies

The government has prepared a website on Preparing for Emergencies.  The site contains information on how you can help yourself and your family in emergencies. A lot of this information is based on common sense advice and may seem obvious or familiar to you. It will also let you know what has been done to prepare and protect our country in recent years.

The site also contains links to access other websites that give further information - for example, on specific emergencies, organisations responsible for emergency planning and where you can find out about First Aid training.
