About Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a paid job that combines hands-on work experience with structured learning—so you earn while you learn!

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC) is committed to supporting the Apprenticeship programme.

The Apprenticeship scheme offers the opportunity to work alongside skilled colleagues whilst studying a qualification and gaining relevant on the job specific training. Apprenticeship pathways include a mixture of work-based learning and classroom training either delivered through our partnerships with local Colleges and training providers. Our apprentices’ benefit from being paired with a mentor that can support them and coach them throughout their apprenticeship.

MTCBC has seen considerable success with employees’ upskilling by studying apprenticeships in a range of areas including ICT, Finance, Social Media, Data, HR, Building Control, Highways and Engineering, Carbon and Energy, Construction and much more!

Apprenticeships give us a comprehensive, but flexible, training framework leading to nationally recognised qualifications, which can support all our team members at all levels, improving their performance and demonstrating their competency to enhance the service they deliver to you, our people of Merthyr.

The scheme is open to anyone from the age of 16+.
