Yes, we have a Welsh application form which you can access here Cyfrinachol - Ffurflen Gais Am Swydd | Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Merthyr Tudful
Yes they can still apply for a job. Please contact 01685 725000 and ask for HR who can send an application form to you in the post.
A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working for the Council. This will depend on the nature of the job and the circumstances and background of your offence(s).
All appointments require 2 satisfactory references (3 for social workers). At least one should be from your current or most recent employer. If you have not previously been employed then we will require two-character references and these can be obtained from a teacher or tutor at your School, College, University or someone that you have known for 2+ years (however this must not be someone who is related to you). Councillors and relatives cannot act as referees.
Interview Stage
Unfortunately, due to the number of applications we receive we are not able to contact all unsuccessful applicants. If you have been shortlisted for interview though you will usually receive an email within a few days of the closing date. If you haven’t heard from us and want to check, please call 01685 725000 and ask for HR. Please quote the job reference number so that we can find your application.
The best way to prepare for your interview is to read the job description carefully and understand what skills and experience it is asking for. You can also read through your application form, think about what questions you might be asked and prepare some examples from your past experience to refer to in the interview. It is also helpful to research into what the Council does and the services it provides or contact the recruiting manager for more information about the role as this can show that you are interested. If you have a disability, you might need adjustments to make the interview accessible. Please contact HR on 01685 725000.
This will depend on the role you have applied for, but we would usually suggest that you dress smartly for your interview to make a good impression.
The recruiting manager will contact you as soon as the interview panel has made a decision on the successful candidate.
Once you’ve been offered the job verbally, the HR department will need to undergo a number of pre-employment screening checks. These can take several weeks to complete. As soon as all checks are complete you will be contacted to arrange a start date.
Employment Check Process
We suggest that you wait until all pre-employment checks are complete before handing your notice in with your current employer.
The checks we undertake depend on the type of role you have applied for and can take several weeks to complete. They usually include references, a right to work check, a fit for work questionnaire, qualifications, professional registration and Disclosure and a Barring Service (DBS) check.
A DBS is a criminal record check undertaken by the Disclosure and Barring Service. This may be needed if the job you’ve applied for involves working with children or vulnerable adults. If you need a DBS check, we will arrange this. Your DBS check will be processed online. We’ll send you a link to the online form and login details for you to complete an application form. We will also send you a list of the acceptable ID we will need to process the check. Once you’ve completed the form and we’ve verified your ID the online form will be submitted to the National DBS for processing. You will receive a certificate through the post when it is ready. The Council will pay for your DBS check.
All external new starters with the Council need to complete a 10-hour online Work Welsh course. You will be sent a link to the course and instructions of how to complete it. The Council is keen to promote the Welsh language, be able to provide a Welsh language service to those customers who want it and to meet the requirements of the Welsh Language Standards.
You will need to provide evidence of all qualifications deemed as essential for the job you applied for. If you are unable to find your certificates you will need to obtain copies from the awarding body. Failure to provide this will result in the offer of employment being withdrawn.
Yes there is. Please complete all of the forms you are sent and return them as soon as you can, along with any other information we have asked you for, such as evidence of your right to work and qualifications and complete the Welsh course. It is also helpful if you can contact your referees and ask them if they can return the reference forms to us as soon as they receive them.
You will receive a provisional contract within days of being offered the job. You will receive your formal contract of employment once all of your pre-employment checks are complete and you are ready to start work.
