Education Other Than at School
Tuition is provided to support pupils of statutory school age on a short-term basis who are unable, because of their medical needs, to attend school. Tuition is not a long-term alternative to attending school.
Pupils receiving tuition remain registered at their school and the Tuition Service works closely with the school to ensure pupils are able to return to school as soon as appropriate.
Medical evidence is required to support any requests made by schools for tuition and decision making is via a fortnightly tuition panel.
The provision of tuition exists to meet the Council’s statutory responsibility towards pupils who are unable to attend school for a number of reasons and works to prevent those pupils falling behind in their education.
Tuition is based at offices in Triangle Business Park, Pentrebach.
Tuition is different to elective home education, also known as home schooling, which is when parents remove their child from mainstream education and assume legal and financial responsibility for their education.
