Universal Primary FREE School Meals
Welsh Government aims to provide every child in primary school in Wales with a free school meal by September 2024, regardless of household income.
Universal Primary Free School Meals (UPFSM) – Calling all parents of pupils in Years 3 and 4. From the start of the new academic year in September all pupils in Years 3 and 4 are entitled to a free school meal as part of the Universal Primary Free School Meals initiative. This extends the current offer whereby all pupils in the Foundation Phase receive a free school meal whenever they want.
You do not need to apply for this and ALL pupils in the following year groups; full-time Nursery, Reception, Years 1 & 2, Years 3 & 4, can have a free school meal every day. Just book your child’s meal in the usual way via your school. We aim to extend this to pupils in Years 5 and 6 by April 2024.
All parents are encouraged to pre-book their children’s meal(s) in advance via ParentPay. Your child will then choose their meal option in school at registration.
We aim to extend this rollout to our Year 5 & 6 by April 2024.
