Home Visits
The Local Authority needs to satisfy itself that children receive suitable educational provision. In order to do so, the officer with responsibility for home education will make contact with the family in order to discuss their plans and to offer support and guidance. This is usually in the form of a home visit. Prior to the visit you will be sent a questionnaire to complete which will help to facilitate the discussion and can help you plan out how you intend to meet the educational requirements to make sure your child has an education which is suitable for their age, ability and aptitude. Your child will also be given a child-friendly questionnaire to complete. Visits are relaxed and are a way for us to get to know each other, to discuss the sort of education you will be providing and ensure that it is appropriate, and to look at any support and guidance we can offer. After the visit you will be given a full written report setting out what was discussed.
After the initial visit we offer further contact every six months, either in the form of a further visit or via email. We are always available to provide advice and support in between contact visits.
