We work with businesses and partners to grow the visitor economy and develop new opportunities.
This includes:
- Promotion through Visit Merthyr
- Connecting businesses to funding, training and support
- Delivering tourism grants in partnership through Orbit Business Centre
- Developing new experiences, events and investment opportunities
We also promote the destination to wider audiences through travel trade activity, working with partners including https://www.southernwales.com/ and https://www.visitwales.com/ to position Merthyr Tydfil within the regional and national offer.
Destination Management Partnership
Tourism is delivered through a coordinated partnership approach.
The Destination Management Partnership:
- Brings together public, private and third sector organisations
- Provides a shared direction for the visitor economy
- Supports delivery of the Destination Management Plan
- Meets regularly to review progress and priorities
Our Approach – The Plan!
Our work is guided by the Destination Management Plan - Future Energy 2026–2030.
Our focus is to:
- Grow key strengths - particularly adventure and outdoor experiences
- Improve the basics - creating a welcoming, accessible destination
- Strengthen identity - celebrating culture, heritage and place
