Question

I hereby request copies of all the record, including but not limited to email correspondence, briefing notes, internal reports, and communications plans, relating to the following: • Current number of asylum seekers dispersed to the local authority under the UK Government’s widening of dispersal policy (since April 2022) and future projections (end of 2024). • Past and future training and consultancy expertise in relation to UK asylum policy sought by the local authority since April 2022. • Current guidance and pathways for support for people with No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF). Future provision in light of the changes brought forward by the Illegal Migration Act 2023.

Answer

We do not hold documented records described however we can confirm that there are 5 people residing in Merthyr Tydfil under asylum dispersal. (This does not include any Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children) None We do not have any guidance or pathways to support people with NRPF. The Council will signpost them to the WRC, as they offer a Wales Sanctuary Service that supports people with help in alleviating destitution, accessing safe and secure housing and help in challenging unfair asylum decisions.
