Question

Under the Freedom of Information Act I am seeking the following pieces of information for 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16. 1. How many public toilets does the council currently manage as of December 2016? Where are these and how many toilets are in each block? 2. How many public toilets have been closed and where – please can you give me this information for the 2013/14, 2014/15, 2015/16 – financial years. 3. What were the reasons for the closures? Expense, lack of use, vandalism, crime etc? 4. Are there any plans to reopen public toilets, or to make any available in community buildings?

1. List of closures and remaining ‘parks’ toilets listed below. 2. 7 in 2014 (see list below) 3. Council efficiency savings 4. No plans to re-open toilets. Public Toilets Location Facilities Status TOWN CENTRE TOILETS; 1. LADIES x 6 Cubicles 1 Baby changing Table 1 Disabled Toilet with RADAR key fitted (shared facility located in men’s side) Also one infant chair fitted 1a GENTS x 3 Cubicles 1 Disabled Toilets with RADAR key fitted (shared facility located in men’s side) 1 Baby changing Table The above toilets are situated near the Central Bus Station. Also these facilities are open between the hours 6.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday and Saturday .And are closed on Sunday Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. Was re-opened by café owner but restricted to customers only DOWLAIS TOILETS; 2. LADIES x 3 Cubicles 1 Disabled Toilet with RADAR key 1 Baby changing Table 2a. GENTS x 2 Cubicles 1 Disabled Toilet with RADAR key fitted The above toilets are situated near Berry Square Dowlais . The hours of these toilets are 7:00 am to 4:00 pm and Closed Saturday and Sunday. Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. SWAN STREET TOILETS; 3. Disabled Toilets 1 cubicle with RADAR key fitted. The above toilets are situated in Swan Street near the Police Station. Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. PONTSARN TIOLETS. These toilets are only open during the summer months (Easter till August 8.00am to 8:00pm ) . During the season they are open , they are open seven days a week. 4 . LADIES x 2 Cubicles 4a.. GENTS x 1 Cubicle Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. Due to re-open in the Summer of 2016 by community run organisation (summer only) TROEDYRHIW TOILETS 5. . Only have a Gents urinal Situated near the police station in Troedyrhiw . Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. GEORGETOWN Urinals only Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. QUAKERS YARD TOILETS. 6. Again only have a Gents urinal Situated near the River Taff Bargoed Bridge Near the old Quakers Cemetery Closed down prior to April 2014 due to efficiency savings. As part of the consultation the following were offered as alternatives although they were not council run.
