The County Borough Council is consulting residents and businesses on plans to improve the ‘corridor’ between the new bus interchange and railway station.
As part of the 15-year Town Centre Masterplan aimed at transforming the town centre into a thriving retail, hospitality, leisure and business hub, the Council is looking at making the areas linking the transport connections more attractive.
The plan envisages that by 2035, the centre will also feature new plazas, green spaces and ‘an active riverside’, with the aim of creating ‘inviting streets, squares and routes, where people feel safe, welcomed and uplifted’.
“We have an ambitious project to improve the corridor between the bus interchange and the rail station,” said Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Transformation and Commercialisation Cllr Geraint Thomas.
“What we’re looking for is an attractive new physical connection with the lower High Street, to allow improved open and green spaces, and better pedestrian accessibility to the southern end of town and an improved railway station.”
