Eisteddfod Clwstwr showcases Welsh talent in the County Borough

Today, pupils from across Merthyr Tydfil will show off their creative talents in the Eisteddfod Clwstwr, an online event showcasing Welsh language talents.

Young people will play instruments, act, dance, narrate and sing various Welsh language pieces such as ‘calon lan’, ‘sosban fach’ and ‘lliwiau’r enfys’. They will also perform their own songs which they have developed and written in their Welsh language lessons at school. All the participants have received certificates for their achievements during the event.

Education Chief Officer, Sue Walker, said: For the first time this year, Cyfarthfa High School & its partner primary schools have taken part in a cluster eisteddfod. Sue Walker, Director of Education commented, this event is part of the Council's plans to increase the use of, & support the development of the Welsh Language across the County Borough. The Pen Y Dre cluster have held such an event for several years & over the next few years we hope to support our other clusters to undertake a similar activity. Huge congratulations to all the children and young people who took part and thank you to the staff for supporting them and to the judges who gave their time to adjudicate.

Welsh Language Champion, and Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Geraint Thomas, said: "It was fantastic to see our young people come together to celebrate our language and culture. It is pleasing and reassuring to know that our traditions are in safe hands for the future.  Gwaith gwych pawb."
