The One Planet Standard recognises organisations who seek to respect earth’s natural boundaries and capacities by adjusting the impacts of their activities to a level matching with what the planet can provide.
The Council is proud to receive a bronze award signifying the hard work and positive changes around biodiversity, improving understanding of carbon literacy and developing strategies to tackle climate change, reaching all areas of Council delivery and staff throughout the authority and increasing engagement and ownership.
The accreditation process involved self assessment tools, providing written evidence to support each of the principles and key members of staff taking part in interviews to demonstrate their involvement, dedication and commitment to tackling climate change. Achieving this award gives MTCBC the support and guidance to create a road map towards net zero carbon.
Councillor Michelle Symonds, Decarbonisation Champion said:
" Achieving the One Planet Standard is one of our Decarbonisation Plan goals and demonstrates our dedication to tackling climate change and our hard work towards the net zero target.
“We recognise that this standard provides us with a strong, solid framework for our organisation to work towards moving forward, as well as the opportunity to benchmark against others.
“We’re the second Welsh local authority to be recognised under the One Planet Standard and will continue to lead by example for decarbonation in Wales.”
