Last month saw the Council’s 15th Recruitment Fair take place, in partnership with Merthyr Tydfil Job Centre Plus and hosted at Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre.

The day, which was opened by Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil, Councillor Malcolm Colbran, was a huge success, with almost 500 local people going along to speak with the 25 employers who were there to discuss their current vacancies, take CV’s and have a general chat about their employment opportunities.

With the support of Communities for Work Plus and Job Centre Plus staff, many local people were able to make applications for employment directly at the event. It was also a great opportunity for local Wilko staff, who were recently made redundant, to attend the event and speak to employers who were looking to fill retail roles.

Councillor Michelle Symonds, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “It’s great to see another successful Recruitment Fair this year!

“We want to support as many people as possible to get back in to work, so our experts were on hand throughout the day to offer their support and advice on everything from how to apply for jobs, to writing to CVs, to interview techniques.

“We hope that many successful job applications came as a result of it.”
