Key factors and development of the Playground Fitters role:

The post is to be held by a trained, competent member of staff, capable of lone working. working with other park team members and using and developing communication skills with the general public and other council employees. The role gives opportunities to develop health and safety skills in playground inspections both routine (visual) and Operational (detailed) inspections. With the development of technology an IT inspection system can be used for all playground inspections and recording of works carried out and issued.

There are further opportunities and training to develop skills in playground inspection, playground maintenance, weed spraying, IT skills and any further development required by the playground fitter’s role.

This is an essential post that aims to continue the current standards of maintenance of play areas within the borough of Merthyr Tydfil. The continued maintenance of the playgrounds, MUGA’s, skate parks and park assets are essential to provide suitable sites for children of all ages, and to improve their physical and mental well-being.

The Role is adaptable to take on new challenges and responsibilities to ensure the department is forward thinking in displaying a modern approach to innovation.

The role will also require a positive approach and outcome to tasks and be able to identify not only the problem but ways in which it can be overcome, this will develop personal skills required for the post.

It is essential that there is a playground fitter that can carry out the required works in the Borough of Merthyr Tydfil for M.T.C.B.C as there is a risk that the play areas would not be able to be maintained to their current standards and the service would be adversely affected by the lack of resources in the borough.
