We are looking to appoint a new caretaker to support the site manager in ensuring that our exceptional new school buildings and environment are maintained to the very highest standards. Pen y Dre High School is the first carbon net zero high school in Wales and has benefitted from a multi-million pounds refurbishment under the Sustainable Communities for Learning Programme delivered by Welsh Government.

Pen y Dre High School is a friendly and successful school. We work together as part of a happy and kind team. Being a caretaker is a very important role. You are often the first-person visitors and contractors meet. You often meet and greet our families on arrival.

We are looking for a caretaker who:
Is respectful, polite and welcoming to all
Is reliable, honest and committed to school
Has a good sense of humour
Has clear communication with pupils, parents, visitors and staff
Demonstrates flexibility (from time to time there may be a need to open school late or
on weekends. This would be agreed in advance).
Has experience with Health & Safety related matters (desirable).

What will be your duties be?
Routine maintenance of the school building indoors (this can include minor repairs)
Routine maintenance of school grounds outdoors (this can include minor repairs)
Recycling
Reporting of repairs / major works
Assistance with Health & Safety (Please see job description for list).
Daily cleaning of agreed areas

Hours of Duty
The caretaker will work 37 hours per week as set out below, but a ‘flexible’ approach to duty hours is essential:
Monday-Thursday 10:00 am – 6.00 pm (12:30 to 1:00 pm lunch)
Friday 10:00 am – 5:30 pm

The caretaker will work half an hour less every Friday, the timing of this to be agreed with the Headteacher.

Leave Arrangement
Annual leave must be taken during school holiday periods (except with the prior consent of the Headteacher).
