Safeguarding

Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 requires Local Authorities and Governing Bodies of maintained schools to have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.

Safeguarding is about protecting children and adults from abuse or neglect and educating those around them to recognise the signs and dangers.  Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility.

Schools have a legal duty of care for the health, safety, security and wellbeing of their pupils and staff at all times.  This duty of care incorporates the duty to safeguard all pupils from subjection to any form of harm, abuse or nuisance.  It is the responsibility of the Governing Body and Senior Leaders to ensure that this duty is uncompromised at all times.
