If your property or business has been affected by flooding or you think it may become affected by flooding, it is advised that you make some necessary preparations yourself. Council operatives may not always be available to help.

We advise you store sandbags on your property as we may not be able to get sandbags to you in time.

Advice

The Council is reaching out to our Merthyr Tydfil residents who own any land that contains a -
culvert, gully, stream, ditch or watercourse running through it - and requests that owners carry out essential maintenance in the coming weeks, to help reduce the risk of flooding during the darker, colder months.

Take a look at our 5 top tips to help you safely maintain these privately-owned assets;

  • Clear any blockages by removing leaves, debris and silt that could obstruct water flowing
  • Cut back any overgrown plants that might restrict water flowing
  • Avoid blockages by never dumping household or garden waste into these watercourses
  • Inspect culverts and gullies regularly to ensure they are not blocked, collapsed or eroded
  • We advise you store sandbags on your property in case of an emergency
