Request a Pest Control Treatment

Use this service to request a Pest Control Treatment.

The eradication of insects and rodents which are transmitters of disease is a very significant part of the Local Authority's service to the community. Rats and mice, cockroaches, fleas and wasps are all universally regarded as unacceptable in the home or workplace and we provide a rapid service to poison these pests.

We also provide advice and information on how to prevent any recurrence and have power to require occupiers to remove accumulations which are providing sustenance or harbourage for public health pests. All the poisons used by our staff are as environmentally acceptable as possible and have low toxicity to non-target species.

Pest Control Charges

Treatment will not be carried out until payment is received.
Payment can be made in person at the Civic Centre, or over the phone by credit or debit card.

This is a service where there is an associated fee or charge.

For information on our current fees and charges see our Environmental Health Fees and Charges page.

Bees

The Council does not carry out control measures for bees on Environmental grounds, as they are so essential to the well being of the Welsh Countryside.

If you have a swarm of bees on your property, they may just be resting and may move on in a day or so.

The Local Authority's Environmental Health Department has contact with local Beekeepers, who can if appropriate, come and remove and rehome the swarm.

If you have a query please contact Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council on the details below.

There must be someone present at the property when our technicians call. We will not enter premises or gardens unaccompanied for the resident's and our own security and safety.

Targets and Response Times

If you have rats in the house this is priority. The team will aim to respond and visit the same day, if not the following day.

For all other requests, the team will endeavour to respond within 3 working days.

Pests in a Neighbour's Property

If a pest problem affecting your property is from an adjacent property or land, we cannot treat without the permission of the property or land owner.

You may wish to approach your neighbour but if not, or, if the owner is unknown, or they refuse to sort out the problem, there may be further action we can take. We can visit the neighbour and provide advice, or can take formal action where necessary.

To Rearrange or Cancel a Visit

To book a re-visit, rearrange or cancel a visit call the Pest Control team on 01685 725000.

  • Ants
  • Foxes

  • Seagulls, Pigeons or other birds

Ants

We advise that you purchase ant powder and place it where the ants are coming in from - so they will take the poison back to the nest.
