Merthyr Tydfil Biodiversity Action Plan & Partnership

Biodiversity is short for Biological Diversity, which means the variety of all living things.

Merthyr Tydfil Biodiversity Action Plan 2014-2019

These are the types of natural habitat and animals that are special for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough so we have set targets to keep and improve what we have:

  • Broadleaved Woodland
  • Grassland (including acid, neutral, calcareous grasslands & Rhos pasture)
  • Heathland
  • Wetland (including bog, fen, marsh, swamp & ponds)
  • Rivers & Streams
  • Ffridd (a Welsh mixed ‘mosaic’ habitat)
  • Mineral Spoil (Old Tips)
  • Linear Features (including drystone walls, hedgerows, railway verges)
  • Bats
  • Great Crested Newts
  • Otter
  • Lapwing
  • Dormouse

Part of the Action Plan includes awareness raising, education, data collection, sustainable development and ecological connectivity.

The Merthyr Tydfil Biodiversity Partnership consists of organisations, residents and persons who operate, or have an interest in biodiversity, within Merthyr Tydfil County Borough.
