Article 4 directions

Article 4 Directions can be invoked by the planning authority to further prohibit the type of small alterations that would be usually allowed under Permitted Development Rights even in a conservation area. An Article 4 specifically prohibits certain types of development, and is specific to certain streets, parts of streets, and even specific houses.
Merthyr Tydfil Borough County Council currently has the following Article 4 directions in place:

Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre Conservation Area:  Pontmorlais Quarter

Thomastown Conservation Area:              

• 10 Newcastle Street
• 44 Upper Thomas Street
• The Mount, Queens Road
• Brynawel, Queens Road
