Keeping children and young people safe from harm and supporting families

Keeping children and young people safe is at the heart of everything we do in Children’s Services. Our way of working puts children, young people, and their families right at the centre. We believe that having strong, open and honest relationships between our staff and the community makes a real difference.

We don’t support people on their own—we look at their whole family and support network. We also make sure children, young people and their parents have a voice, and we offer advocacy to help with that. Our Family Group Conferences give families a safe space to come together and find their own solutions, because we know that families are the experts in their own lives.

Merthyr Tydfil Children’s Services is part of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg Safeguarding Board. You can find more info for parents and carers here, including guidance on topics around keeping children safe, plus a leaflet that explains the child protection conference process.

There’s also a factsheet below with more details, along with more information about how we work alongside children, young people and families.

Learn more about what a social worker does and how they do it in our factsheet and animation below.
