Performing Animals registration

Any person who exhibits or trains performing animals needs to be registered with their local authority under the Performing Animals (Regulation) Act 1925.  You must register if you keep or train animals for public performance, for example in a television production, a theatre performance or demonstrations in schools.  There is no requirement to register if you train or exhibit animals for use by the military or police, or if they are trained for use in agriculture or sport.

To register you are required to complete the application form and pay the fee of £45.  Once you have registered, it is your responsibility to ensure that you keep the list of animals up to date with the authority.

Applications can be made by post or in person at the Civic Centre by making an appointment with the Licensing Department.

A register is kept of all people who have registered under this Act and is available for public inspection by prior appointment.

If you have any welfare concerns for any performing animals or believe a person is using an animal without a performing animal registration, please contact the Licensing Department.
