We are seeking Residential Support Workers to help set up our own residential children’s home within the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough. This is an exciting time to join the local authority as we begin to establish a residential arm to support some of the children and young people in our care. As a Residential Support Worker, you will be integral in providing a safe and secure environment in which our children and young people will live. You will support them to reach their full potential by providing them with opportunities to thrive. This will involve providing emotional and social support, managing challenging behaviour and developing an understanding of early childhood trauma and the impact on the young people in our care. The role involves supporting, as a staff team, the direct day-to-day care of children in all aspects of their life: daily routines, education attendance, activities, hobbies and community involvement. You will be expected to undertake domestic and household tasks as well as attending appointments and maintaining contact with family and friends. The young people are cared for on a 24 hour basis and you will be required to work some sleep-in shifts, on a rota basis, to support this.
